Why I’m Hopeful… Our Golden Opportunity

The Covid-19 virus is giving us a golden opportunity to look at the way we live our lives, and the way the world functions. We shouldn’t want to return to normal, because normal didn’t work.

I hope we’ll all come out of this with a new commitment to live well on every level.

One of my favorite recent Facebook memes is:

“Kinda feeling like the earth just send us all to our rooms

to think about what we’ve done.” Luxepunk on Facebook

The impact of this pandemic will affect everyone differently.  Some have lost jobs and income and are likely frightened – please pray for them and for solutions.

Stay optimistic – it strengthens your immune system, as does gratitude. Before going to bed each night, express 5 things you’re grateful for. Do the same each morning.

Greet the sun each day.

Try to be a helper, to find the light and good in every situation. Aside from helping others, you’ll raise your own vibration.

Indigenous people say this time is a gift, opening a portal to a new world, if we take advantage of it. The key is to maintain gratitude, kindness, and deepen our spiritual practice.

Use the time: clean out closets, learn something new, exercise and eat well. World famous museums are offering free virtual tours – this is a good time to take a look.

When Shakespeare was quarantined with the plague, he wrote King Lear. I  have a new book coming out next week – stay tuned – and am working on my next.

You’ll get some good ideas of how to spend your time in the lovely poem below by Kitty O’Meara.

And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened,

and rested, and exercised, and made art,

and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.

And listened more deeply.

Some meditated, some prayed, some danced.

Some met their shadows.

And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed.

And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous,

mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again,

they grieved their losses, and made new choices,

and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully,

as they had been healed.
